A barrister who supported the campaign to reopen Friern Barnet Library has been selected as a Labour parliamentary candidate.

Sarah Sackman will contest the Finchley and Golders Green seat, currently occupied by Conservative politician Mike Freer, at the 2015 general election.

Ms Sackman, a public law barrister who grew up in East Finchley, won a majority vote among local members to win the selection contest ahead of Catherine Tuitt and trade union-backed candidate Alon Or-bach.
