Feasta | The Foundation for the Economics of Sustainability

Background
Feasta was launched in Dublin in October 1998 to explore the economic, cultural and environmental characteristics of a truly sustainable society, and to disseminate the results of this exploration to the widest relevant audience.
The position Feasta has adopted is that many of the world’s problems are caused not by bad people but by dysfunctional systems and it sees its purpose as designing better systems. For example, the economic system demands continual growth if it is not to collapse into a catastrophic depression, and this leaves politicians with little alternative but to pursue short-term economic growth more-or-less regardless of the damage that that pursuit might be doing to longer-term environmental and social sustainability.
Feasta has spent a lot of time examining the reasons for this growth compulsion to see if an economic system can be devised without it. Feasta has also looked at money systems, agricultural systems, carbon systems, energy systems, taxation systems, rationing systems, land tenure systems and democratic systems and come up with ideas for these.

Watch This and network - We Steal Secrets Official Trailer #1 (2013) - WikiLeaks Movie HD

Just watched this film, very interesting lots of info on Wikileaks, Julian Assange and Bradley Manning as well as the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the way they are conducted away from the public eyes.

Thanks to the brave efforts of whistle blowers worldwide we see more of the actions of the military industrial complex and its blatant disregard for human rights and the Geneva Convention.
The terrible abuses of the secret prison complex and the disappearance of rights to a fair trial, the internment and torture of untold across the planet.
Respect going out to all the info warriors and guerilla networkers out there, share the info. The spotlight of public opinion can help to change the world....keep networking for a better future.

If you are somewhere in the system and see things that are wrong then get them out any way you can. Blow that whistle...........

A World to Win | No to corporate power - Yes to peoples power

 A World to Win

People’s Assemblies –
the future shape of democracy

The global political elites have turned democracy into a commodity and sold it to the corporations and banks for a small fee. Our votes now count for very little despite the great struggles of the past to win the franchise and give people a say in elections.
Whoever is in power will do what the financial markets, the major corporates and the International Monetary Fund say. That is why the burden of the economic crisis of capitalism is imposed on ordinary people with wage cuts, lower pensions, unemployment and the loss of vital services.
So we should create a new political and economic system, one that is actually responsive to the needs of the majority and not the minority whose only interests are profits and large bonuses.
People’s Assemblies are the new shape of democracy, and the vehicle for going forward to the stage of challenging the authority of governments to bring ruin on people and, ultimately, replacing them and the system they serve.

'CIA fabricated evidence to lure US into war with Syria' — RT Op-Edge

 Reuters / Larry Downing

The intelligence gathered against Syria’s Assad was manufactured by elements within the spy community in order to mislead the US President to take punitive action, Ray McGovern, a veteran CIA analyst, told RT.
McGovern was among the signatories to the letter from veteran intelligence professionals to Obama, warning the US president that Assad is not responsible for the chemical attack, and that “CIA Director John Brennan is perpetrating a pre-Iraq-War-type fraud on members of Congress, the media, [and] the public.”

India's Incredibly Powerful "Abused Goddesses" Campaign Condemns Domestic Violence

"Pray that we never see this day. Today, more than 68% of women in India are victims of domestic violence. Tomorrow, it seems like no woman shall be spared. Not even the ones we pray to."

The campaign simply and effectively captures India’s most dangerous contradiction: that of revering women in religion and mythology, while the nation remains incredibly unsafe for its women citizens.

Last year alone, 244,270 crimes against women were reported in the country.

Obama torn to shreds by Fox News over Syria. Seriously A Must Watch

Wow whats going on, isn't Fox News usually drumming up support  for these illegal wars.
Seems like the Obama administration is facing a revolt from the American people,Congress and the Media moguls. As well as decreasing supporet internationally.
This presenter rips into Obama and the faltering attempt to push us into another illegal war.
The clip even acknowledges International law,and gets Putin to explain UN rules on wars of aggression.
Seems like the tide of change is beginning to flood the warmongers bunkers.
A good thing to, cos if your watching the military build up, Russia and China now have ships close to Syria and Iran is preparing counter strikes, unless we all de escalate this spark could turn into an international inferno.
Peace not War, lets put our resources into repairing the planet and creating a peace full future. -Phoenix

200+ arrests @ anti EDL demo yesterday unreported by media......

200+ arrests @ anti EDL demo yesterday

@ | 08.09.2013 12:40

Unreported by the media....

For those of you not on Facebook, Twitter etc, 200+ anti fascists got kettled and mass arrested onto buses yesterday during the counter-EDL demo in Tower Hamlets. This went completely unreported by the mainstream news, UAF etc. For sources, see for example GBC Legal:  https://twitter.com/GBCLegal or South London AF:  https://twitter.com/SouthLondonAF for news.

Arrestees were kept on buses for many hours and were taken to stations all over London, as far south as Sutton and Croydon, where they were met throughout the night by much solidarity in the form of beer, chocolate and hugs.

This follows similar mass arrests of 58 anti-BNP activists in June. Now, as then, most arrestees have been given bail conditions not to participate in demos against the EDL, BNP or EVF within the boundaries of the M25.

Quite a few cases from the June arrests have now been dropped. The pre-booked London buses (in one case at least, driven by a guy in an Arriva shirt), blatantly discriminatory policing, and identical bail conditions show policing of EDL demos in recent times has been increasingly about removing the opposition.

Got to  http://londonantifascists.wordpress.com/ or other grassroots anti fash sites for reports soon to come no doubt.

These False Flags Were Used To Start A War - BlackListedNews.com

Below is a partial list of some of the documented “false flag” events that were intended and/or served to start a war in recent and not so recent history.

High-Level U.S. Intelligence Officers: Syrian Government Didn’t Launch Chemical Weapons - BlackListedNews.com

High-Level U.S. Intelligence Officers: Syrian Government Didn’t Launch Chemical Weapons - BlackListedNews.com

Very interesting reading, this blacklisted news should be networked.
It shows that many intelligence agencies know that the chemical attack is a false flag operation.
We are once again being manipulated into an Illegal War.
The power of the internet means we can network and spread this info, to defeat the warmongers and military industrial complex that wants to lock us into an ongoing permanent war.

Some good quotes

U.S. intelligence officials are not so certain that the suspected chemical attack was carried out on Assad’s orders, or even completely sure it was carried out by government forces, the officials said.

Indeed, numerous intelligence officers say that the rebels likely carried out the August 21st attack.

The Obama administration has selectively used intelligence to justify military strikes on Syria, former military officers with access to the original intelligence reports say, in a manner that goes far beyond what critics charged the Bush administration of doing in the run-up to the 2003 Iraq war.
According to these officers, who served in top positions in the United States, Britain, France, Israel, and Jordan, a Syrian military communication intercepted by Israel’s famed Unit 8200 electronic intelligence outfit has been doctored so that it leads a reader to just the opposite conclusion reached by the original report.

The doctored report was picked up on Israel’s Channel 2 TV  on Aug. 24, then by Focus magazine in Germany, the Times of Israel, and eventually by The Cable  in Washington, DC.
According to the doctored report, the chemical attack was carried out by the 155th Brigade of the 4th Armored Division of the Syrian Army, an elite unit commanded by Maher al-Assad, the president’s brother.
However, the original communication intercepted by Unit 8200 between a major in command of the rocket troops assigned to the 155th Brigade of the 4th Armored Division, and the general staff, shows just the opposite.
The general staff officer asked the major if he was responsible for the chemical weapons attack. From the tone of the conversation, it was clear that “the Syrian general staff were out of their minds with panic that an unauthorized strike had been launched by the 155th Brigade in express defiance of their instructions,” the former officers say.
According to the transcript of the original Unit 8200 report, the major “hotly denied firing any of his missiles” and invited the general staff to come and verify that all his weapons were present.
The report contains a note at the end that the major was interrogated by Syrian intelligence for three days, then returned to command of his unit. “All of his weapons were accounted for,” the report stated.
***
An Egyptian intelligence report describes a meeting in Turkey between military intelligence officials from Turkey and Qatar and Syrian rebels. One of the participants states, “there will be a game changing event on August 21st” that will “bring the U.S. into a bombing campaign” against the Syrian regime.
The chemical weapons strike on Moudhamiya, an area under rebel control, took place on August 21. “Egyptian military intelligence insists it was a combined Turkish/Qatar/rebel  false flag operation,” said a source familiar with the report.
[A "false flag" is a ploy for starting war which has been used by governments around the world for thousands of years.]

BBC News - Computer program uses Twitter to 'map mood of nation'

 Twitter app on smartphone

British scientists have developed a computer program they say can map the mood of the nation using Twitter.
Named Emotive, it works by accessing the emotional content of postings on the social networking site.
The team, from Loughborough University, say it can scan up to 2,000 tweets a second and rate them for expressions of one of eight human emotions.
They claim Emotive could help calm civil unrest and identify early threats to public safety.

Take Action | Going To Work | Tell High Street brands to fix their dangerous factories in Bangladesh

Who's hanging their workers out to dry?

In April over 1200 people died in Bangladesh when the Rana Plaza building collapsed. There has never been a clearer sign that all manufacturers and retailers need to lift dramatically their efforts to ensure that those making their clothes are doing so in safety and with dignity.

Due to the pressure of trade unions, campaigners and concerned consumers, over 80 brands – including H+M, Zara, Next, Primark, New Look and Debenhams – have so far committed to a union-backed Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh.
The Accord commits companies to fund an independent safety inspection body that will involve workers in the process, through their unions, and to make long term deals with suppliers, offering more secure employment and training for workers. As such it represents a big deal for Bangladeshi workers.
But whilst most retailers have stepped up to their responsibilities, there are still a few major brands with factories in Bangladesh but who still refuse to sign. Prominent amongst these are 8 names you will probably know from your high street: River Island, Matalan, Bench, Bank Fashion, Peacocks, Jane Norman, Republic and Mexx.
We need to send a clear message to these 8 companies, telling them there are no excuses left for ignoring safety standards and workers rights in Bangladesh.

Government plan to sell legal aid to G4S,Serco,Capita and Eddie Stobart foiled-BBC News - Legal aid U-turn over price competition plan

BBC News - Legal aid U-turn over price competition plan

Plans to cut the legal aid bill by awarding contracts to the lowest bidder have been dropped, Justice Secretary Chris Grayling has announced.

In a Commons debate on Wednesday, Labour MP Karl Turner had warned: "The government's proposals for PCT will irrevocably damage the criminal justice system.
"PCT will inevitably lead to the market being dominated by the big multinationals, the usual suspects - G4S, Serco, Capita.
"And I fear many new entrants to the market who have absolutely no experience whatsoever in delivering criminal justice will dominate the market."
He warned it would no longer be viable for "small businesses, the expert businesses who have established their practices over a number of years" to "continue to exist".
Mr Turner concluded: "We will see the cornerstone of a civilised society reduced to a factory mentality where quantity will trump quality at each and every time."

The Shameful (and Recent) History of Chemical Weapons Abuses by the US Government
US1
During this unsettling march to war with Syria, political leaders in the US have repeatedly stated that Syria has broken an agreement, put in place at the end of World War I, that chemical weapons are not to be used in warfare.  Some may be left believing that chemical weapons have been absent from the theatre of war between then and the Syrian attacks on August 21st 2013.  This is not the case.  In fact, the US is the biggest abuser of chemical weapons on earth, deploying these weapons across the world right to the present day.

Over 60 people died everyday last winter because of cold homes while the big six energy companies doubled their profits..........making a killing innit

Fuel poverty: an escalating crisis
Over one in four UK households face an impossible choice between heating and eating in the winter.
Deaths from hypothermia have doubled in the past five years, while World Health Organisation estimates show that there were over 7000 deaths from cold homes last winter.
In one of the wealthiest countries in the world, millions cannot afford to heat their homes to a safe level of warmth. This is a national scandal.
Those hit hardest are those living the most precarious lives, including pensioners, disabled people, people with illnesses, students, single mothers and others on low incomes.
While we’re left to freeze in our homes, the profits of the Big Six energy companies – British Gas (Centrica), EDF, E.ON, Npower, Scottish Power and SSE – have soared to record highs. The Big Six cartel are making a killing from a price-fixed energy market rigged in their favour.

Activists flood the Somerset cull zone as guns start firing

The shooting of badgers in Somerset has started this week. The cull is aiming to kill over 70% of the badger population in the area in a misguided attempt to stop tuberculosis (TB) in cattle. The TB problem is mainly down to poor farming practices and inbreeding of the cows, (see Schnews 836) but some would rather scapegoat badgers. Gloucestershire has not started their cull yet, but may do next week.
There has always been huge public opposition to killing badgers and the start of the shooting has seen some of those people taking direct action. As soon as the marksmen started shooting, there were people sabotaging it. Stop the Cull reported the first incident on Tuesday night in the Stogumber area when people heard shots and then some people made enough noise to send the badgers safe underground. The shooting stopped. Since then, there seem to have been problems for the marksmen every time badger friendly people find them. Finding them is a bit tricky, which is why more people are needed to help.
The police have been accompanying the Somerset Badger Group on nightly walks from Williton, all in hi-vis, walking the roads and rights of way in the area. They have been a little less successful at keeping track of the hunt saboteurs and assorted others moving about and more blatantly interfering with the shooting using bright torches and noise. Maybe the poor coppers have other things on their minds, since the audacious ‘Angry Foxes Cell ’ set fire to their Firearms Training Unit in Portishead. (That’s probably a whole other article.) The injunction the NFU took out to try to prevent people stopping the cull has proved pretty irrelevant on the ground, with no use of it reported.
There is a Badger Camp set up near Ash Priors village, about six and a half miles NW of Taunton. This is on the edge of the cull zone, providing camping space, vegan food, networking and training for those coming to stop the cull. To find out more join this facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/campbadger/ There’s also a facebook thing to share lifts to the zone: https://www.facebook.com/groups/badgerliftshare
If you prefer not to have a multinational corporation spying on you whilst organising your vaguely illegal activity, you can phone Somerset Badger Group 07425 071 510 or for Gloucester Office 01386 761455 or Gloucester Field Phone 07891639803. Or if you’re coming from South East England you can call Brighton group on 07415 619160. You could find your local hunt sab group at  http://hsa.enviroweb.org/index.php/get-involved/localgroups
You don’t need any special skills or superpowers, just some practical clothing, food, water, and a torch. Read up on the shooting method here, so you know what to look for.

BBC News - Balcombe protests: Fracking row village sees fresh plan

Oil drilling will cease in a village at the centre of an anti-fracking campaign by the end of September, but further testing could take place under new plans by energy firm Cuadrilla.
Protests were staged in Balcombe over fears test drilling for oil could lead to hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.
Drilling will end by 28 September under planning conditions set out in 2010.
But Cuadrilla said it would make a fresh application by the end of the month to carry out further well tests.

Frack Free Sussex Cuadrilla have withdrawn 2 applications pertaining to their Balcombe site

(101) Frack Free Sussex
Cuadrilla have withdrawn 2 applications pertaining to their Balcombe site, but be ye not lulled, they are regrouping.
They've been caught out on technicalities/legalities because of the extra scrutiny we've collectively forced and the searchlight that's been shone on their reprehensible attempts to get away with all sorts, but the euphemisms on what constitutes fracking are still being manipulated and they are reapplying.
They may even hope to restart in the winter when they think noone will be prepared to camp out. Even if they decide that Balcombe is too much like hard work because of the huge local resistance .. they have designs on plenty other places .. and the BPs and Exxons are not far behind them.

Take action! from 1-13th september

staf
See what’s planned for the week of action.
A massive arms fair is planned to take place in the UK in September 2013. The arms fair welcomes:
The US and UK will seek the next generation of weapons for their wars, while the arms companies aim to set the agenda for more exorbitant military spending.
The arms fair brings together 28,000 international buyers and sellers. The deals that begin here fuel the arms trade the world over. Death, injury, fear and repression are exported from the arms companies on our doorstep.
We can make a difference
When the fair took place in 2011, we challenged the opening night arms dealers’ reception at the National Gallery. One year later we put an end to an arms company’s sponsorship of the National Gallery.

“Hands Off Syria” national march and rally – report and pic - UK Indymedia

Originally planned by the ‘Stop The War Coalition’ as a protest, but now billed as a victory celebration, the march and rally attracted a couple of thousand people out into the late Summer blazing sunshine.

Most intresting quote from the article
"Erdogan also openly supports the terrorist Al-Nusrah Front despite Sarin being found in the home of one of their members in Turkey, further exposing the Western narrative."

So the Rebels in turkey found with Sarin chemical weapon, but who supplied them with it..........get on it Sherlock

Burghfield blockaded during International Nuclear Disarmament Summer Camp - UK Indymedia

The Action AWE and Trident Ploughshares Burghfield Summer International Disarmament Camp continues until 7 September. Today, in a joint action with European anti-militarists, the site has been blockaded since early morning.

BACKGROUND
The Government has begun preparations for the replacement of the Trident nuclear weapons system. Without a debate in Parliament, and in the context of savage spending cuts on public services, the Government has committed to spending up to £100 billion on an illegal weapon of mass destruction that even senior military officers have described as 'useless'.
The nuclear warheads are designed, assembled and maintained at two sites not far outside Reading - AWE Aldermaston and AWE Burghfield. It is here that people opposed to the continued existence of Trident will gather for two weeks of nonviolent disarmament actions.
