"COUNCIL leaders have accused of the Government of letting the people of Fenton down after the Ministry of Justice decided to sell the historic building. The MoJ, which owns the former magistrates’ court, had been working alongside the Stoke-on-Trent City Council and community group Urban Vision to determine its long-term future. Yesterday, a statement from Whitehall claimed that despite being offered ownership of the building for a peppercorn rate, the city council had declined - meaning the town hall, which includes a unique First World War memorial to 498 men of Fenton, could now be sold on commercially. However, city council leader Mohammed Pervez denied the authority was ever in a position to take on the building, claiming it was the MoJ who let the people of Fenton down.
