Question Time at the Liberated library Friern Barnet

Interest is building in the series of Any Questions, both at the library and the hustings organised by Barnet Alliance for Public Services. Ours is a fundraising event and we ask for a donation of £5.

The panel for Friday 21 February 7.30pm at the library will be:

Barbara Jacobson in the Chair.

A stalwart of the Save Friern Barnet Library Group, Barbara has more recently gained a reputation as chair of BAPS and FBCL ANY QUESTIONS events.

Poppy

Green candidate for High Barnet Ward of the Council in May 2014, Poppy is well-known for her views and letters on local issues.

Cllr Alan Schneiderman

Labour councillor for Woodhouse Ward, Alan is the Labour spokesman on libraries and culture in Barnet, and happy to listen to and participate in the debate.

Janet Leifer

With the Save Friern Barnet Library Group, Janet – a retired librarian – read stories to children on the Green at the pop-up library outside the closed FB library in the summer of 2012. She now is a leader in the protest by BAPS and the Campaign Against the Destruction of Disabled Support Services against the closure of Age UK Barnet day centres.

Peter Storey

Secretary of Friern Village Residents Association since its inception in 1998, Peter – in conjunction with Harry Gluck and Michael Lunn of  Friern Barnet and Whetstone RA – is active in the contest with Barnet Council over the application for Village Green status of the green next to our library. This is the focus of a decision before the Council Planning and Environment committee on 13 February. 

The Conservative Party spokespersons have declined our invitation to join the debate, as they did the first one of BAPS, but are doubtless full of curiosity about the suggestions which will be raised from the floor on these topical issues.

With the library now a registered charity, another burning issue is the attitude of the Council and the library trustees towards our library’s vision and plans for the next eighty years.

Invitations for 21 March have been made to Will Self and Malorie Blackman, the Children’s Laureate.

Acceptances for 11 April have been received from Cllr John Hart of Mill Hill and Hadley Wood author Aubrey Rose.
