Queen Nazi salute film: Palace 'disappointed' at use - BBC News
The Sun front page
Buckingham Palace has said it is disappointed that footage from 1933 showing the Queen performing a Nazi salute has been released.
The Sun has published the film which shows the Queen aged about seven, with her mother, sister and uncle.
The palace said it was "disappointing that film, shot eight decades ago... has been obtained and exploited".
The newspaper has refused to say how it got the footage but said it was an "important and interesting story".

Noam Chomsky's Magna Carta Eco-Village by Nick Rosen — Kickstarter please support this DONATE #onn #olsx

Noam Chomsky's Magna Carta Eco-Village by Nick Rosen — Kickstarter

Follow link to watch Trailer

please support this DONATE

About the Project
This is a film about how and why people choose to live off grid. It is both passionate about our Civil Liberties and highly informative about exactly how to live Off-Grid in comfort and style.
Larger donors get a guided tour of an off-grid location.  Noam Chomsky has backed this project and gives a detailed interview in the film.
Runnymede Eco-Village started three years ago on disused land next door to the historic field where the Magna Carta was sealed by King John.  It is now a successful, vibrant, growing community. However, the off-gridders were suddenly targeted by police and developers in the runup to the Magna Carta celebrations in June 2015.
We had already been filming there for the past three months and expect the finished film to be released in September 2015.  Some larger backers will be invited to a press screening with Producer, Director and some of the characters present in the room.
MIT Professor Noam Chomsky has endorsed the Village. In the trailer you see him talking about the eco-village as a symbol of the battle to save the environment.
By juxtaposing their story with the 800th Magna Carta anniversary, we raise issues about personal freedom and society's rejection of a lifestyle that harms no-one and can help our planet, and our civilisation survive.
The Village has already had media coverage - but nobody has told the story from the inside over an extended period, with key interviews from all the players as well as local History professor Justin Champion, one of the world's leading experts on the Magna Carta. These are real people with lives and jobs, hopes and dreams - we are grateful to all of them for helping us.
TV wants primped and preened "perfect families" or dumbass survivalists to be mocked in a reality series.
Our hope is that when you watch this film you will think: "I could live like that - I want to live like that!"

MPs win surveillance powers legal challenge - BBC News

MPs win surveillance powers legal challenge - BBC News

Two MPs have won a High Court battle over laws which they say allow the police and security services to "spy on citizens" without proper safeguards.
The government said it "disagreed absolutely" with the court's ruling and would seek to appeal.
David Davis and Tom Watson argued the Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Act was incompatible with human rights.
It was fast-tracked through Parliament last July, allowing security agencies to gather phone and internet data.
Two High Court judges have now found that the act is "inconsistent with EU law".

Urban gardening in Greece – A new form of protest - Green European Journal

5812618518_9589588c92_z
The Greek crisis has radically changed Greek society, politics and the economy. In just a few years the “Greek Dream” of the beginning of the 21st century, when Greece had experienced some years of rapid GDP growth (about 4% for the first 4 years of the new millennium) mainly due to construction and consumption, has turned into a nightmare.
The Greek society is a society in great depression. In this article we will focus on the development of new forms of social movements, social conflicts and solidarity initiatives that we consider to be part of the green ideals and could help the Greek society get out of depression.
Greek crisis and environmental protection
Environmental politics were never well developed in Greece, but in the last years before the economic crisis the Greek environmental movement has had a short “renaissance”. First, there was the movement against the Olympic Games, which helped reinforce other local urban movements fighting to reclaim public spaces for societal use. Secondly, the massive series of forest fires in 2007 led to an increased public awareness about the causes and effects of global warming, which then led to the creation of new environmental grassroots movements (e.g. Green Attack, Bloggers, Guerrilla Gardeners etc.), and the reinforcement of the Greek Green Party that gained an MEP in the 2009 European elections. This in turn has led to the “greening” of the public discourse of other political parties (mainly Pasok and Syriza). Finally, the Greek riots of December 2008 and the participating youth movements have led to the creation of new social experiments around the social and solidarity economy, this involves the so called “transition and recovery movements” (movements aiming to transform economical activities and every-day life rather than to protest and reclaim changes from the authorities) or the theory of degrowth.

Mhairi Black: SNP MP's maiden speech in full

What is kinetic energy? Can it be harnessed to power our stuff? : TreeHugger

What is kinetic energy? Can it be harnessed to power our stuff? : TreeHugger

Kinetic energy explanation
CC BY-ND 2.0 Flickr
So what is kinetic energy? There's motion everywhere in our world. What if we could harness energy that would otherwise be wasted to power our gadgets and generate clean electricity? Is it too good to be true? We've written many articles about various things that do that, from small gadgets to big infrastructure, but we've never really looked at the field as a whole, with an explanation of how it works and an overview of the pros and cons of trying to harness kinetic energy.
So first thing first: Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. Accelerating an object from a rest position to a certain velocity takes energy, and the object maintains that energy as long as its speed doesn't change. When the object decelerates, that energy from its motion can be transferred in various ways.
If we're talking about a brake pad on a bicycle wheel, the movement of the wheels is progressively stopped using friction and the kinetic energy is transformed into heat, which in this case doesn't do anything useful. But there are ways to harness kinetic energy to either generate useful mechanical work or electricity. This is what many have tried to do to make use of energy that would be otherwise wasted.

MPs to debate revised 'English votes for English laws' plan - BBC News

The House of Commons is to debate revised government proposals to give England's MPs a veto over English laws.
Ministers had to amend their plans after criticism from opposition MPs, including over the time for scrutiny.
A final set of proposals will be drafted after the debate, with a delayed vote to be held in September.
The debate comes after a row over plans to change fox hunting laws in England and Wales, with a vote being axed after the SNP said it would oppose the move.
The SNP had previously said it would not vote on issues affecting England and Wales only.
But it said its change of heart was partly due to the government trying to make Scottish MPs "second-class citizens" in the Commons through its "English votes for English laws" plans.

Buckminster Fuller led a prolific life of research, invention, writing and teaching. He developed a comprehensive systems approach to understanding complex global problems and a unique set of “design science” principles that embodied a deeply attuned ecological aesthetic. Fuller conceived and prototyped new strategies intended to enable all of humanity to live lives characterized by freedom, comfort and dignity without negatively impacting the earth’s ecosystems or regenerative capacity. He emphasized that the technology and know-how already exist to successfully surmount our global challenges and he advocated “doing more with less” by increasing the overall performance of every resource invested in a system.

The massive banner you can see above was made by the Banner Collective @blacbanner (Anna, Anton, Robin, Seamus and Sharon). DPAC are hugely grateful to them for making it for us in memory of @moriarty107 who passed away #RIP.
DPAC also want to thank Class War, Streets Kitchen,  Black Dissidents, London Latinxs, Columbian Women in Action, Occupy, Brick Lane Debates, Winvisible, London Black Revs, Reclaim Hackney, Camden Resists, Never Again Ever, Global Women’s Strike, People Before Profit and Fuel Poverty Action and all that supported us on the 8th for joining with us to make the day such a massive success.
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of crips;
For them to-day that marches or tweets with me
Shall be my sibling; be they ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle their condition;
And crips in England now watching Wimbledon on BBC2
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their wobbly bits cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon #Balls2theBudget day.
With apologies to William Shakespeare (from Henry V)
There follows pictures, tweets and videos of the protest, hope you enjoy the show:

About | Real Media - The News You Don't See

“The political and media cycle is no longer discussing subjects of public importance like fracking, disabled people’s rights, improving working conditions and pay or environmental solutions. We need to take back the national debate.”

ABOUT US

Real Media is a cooperative of journalists dedicated to public interest journalism and challenging mass media distortion.
We believe the large media organisations, as they currently exist, are set up to serve the interest of a small establishment – their owners, their advertisers and the governments that they get most of their information from.

HOW WE ARE DOING THIS

We intend to stand up for public interest journalism in as many ways we can.  As an organisation we intend to grow and adapt as we try and meet these objectives.
We are starting with our online presence, specifically this website.
On our website we currently have:
  • An automated news feed that brings together news from the best alternative sources on the net
  • A features section of comment and analysis where we try to bring together the best in depth pieces
  • A breaking news section where we try to present the most interesting and useful sources on breaking news, as well as covering stories that are being largely ignored
  • A Movements Calendar – protests, meetings, gatherings, occupations, fundraisers, comedy nights – the events you need in your diary
  • Our own productions – video, audio and writing – where we tackle the black box of news (subjects barely covered by the mass media), media criticism, and discussing social movements in the UK and beyond.
We promote some of this through our social media channels on facebook, twitter and youtube.

COMING SOON

  • A Mobile App – get Real Media on your phone
  • More videos, podcasts and articles from the Real Media team
  • A press release page which enables organisations to craft their press releases online and have us send them to the relevant news organisations
  • More public events
