Media & Messaging : Useful Info

BEATING OF THE BOUNDS
The beating of the bounds is an ancient ritual performed to pray for protection.
We will be creating a humdrum of noise around the BBC building (drums, voices etc.) so our message cannot be ignored - it will soon be too late to act to prevent climate and ecological disaster - they must listen, and act with us, now.

LIGHTING OF THE CANDLES IN THE XR SYMBOL
LIGHT symbolises TRUTH
We are forming the XR symbol in candles outside the BBC building, to call upon our Public Service Broadcaster to convey the truth of the severity of the climate and ecological emergency we are experiencing, and the urgent action needed to address this.

WHERE TO SEND videos/photos/soundbites….
If you would like to send videos/photos/soundbites through to National/London, please drop it in this Google Drive in the folder: 15. Reclaim the BBC - 21.12.2018
  • If you’re sending to National/London, it would be really helpful if you could send an email to jamie.xr.media@gmail.com with the objective and target audience of your content so we can sort through media sent in
Some general guidance on things to think about when taking footage/making films to post online:
  1. What’s your story’s objectiveWhat are you informing people of?
(some examples: outlining people's views on the BBC's inaction, calling for older people to get involved, telling stories of people doing actions etc.)
  2. Who is the target audienceWho are you trying to recruit to the cause by showing them your video/photos? (older people, younger people, BBC officials…)

MOURNING
As well as protesting and peaceful non-violent direct action, the day will include mourning
for all those already dying from the climate emergency.
In 2009, the UN estimated that 315,000 people die every year from the impacts of climate breakdown. It is almost 10 years later, and still we are not hearing about this. We will take the necessary time to mourn:
The deaths of the 27 people burnt alive in a single group in the village of Mati, Greece this summer. The over 200 people burnt alive in Greece and California this year in unprecedented wildfires. It will also mourn all the animals, birds, insects and reptiles burnt alive in the same conflagrations.
