THE HYDROGEN ECONOMY IS MUCH NEARER THAN WE THINK – THE ECOLOGIST

Hydrogen made from renewable electricity is already fuelling vehicles at affordable prices, writes DAVID THORPE. But now the ‘green’ fuel is set to go from niche to mainstream – powering not just cars, trucks and buses, but storing surplus renewable energy on sunny and windy days, then to be burnt in gas turbines or fuel cells to supply the grid with reliable power on demand.

Every home and business in the UK would have guaranteed access to high-speed broadband as part of a digital "bill of rights" proposed by Jeremy Corbyn.
In his Digital Democracy Manifesto the Labour leader said slow broadband was a "barrier to learning and a source of social and economic exclusion".
Providing a truly universal UK service across would cost £25bn, he said.
Mr Corbyn pledged to "democratise the internet" if he took power, including consulting on online election voting.
Speaking in Shoreditch, Mr Corbyn also argued his leadership campaign's use of new technology would be a model for a future general election campaign and represented the party's "path to victory" in 2020.
The Labour leader is using social media to appeal to activists, particularly younger voters, in his fight against challenger Owen Smith.

Airin and her friends are rooftoppers in Hong Kong. They refuse to play by the rules and spend their time pulling stunts on top of the city's monumental skyscrapers.
Their high-rise antics and selfies have already made them an internet sensation, but there is something much deeper at play. One year after the hopes of the pro-democracy Umbrella Movement crashed into nothing, many young people are in a state of despair.
They find themselves struggling in a city where housing is prohibitively expensive, Beijing's influence looms overhead, and an obsession with money fuels long working hours and constant stress. Through rooftopping, Airin's crew is determined to show Hong Kong can be reclaimed.

Jeremy Corbyn would legalise cannabis for medicinal use - Mirror Online

The Labour leader says he doesn't take drugs, and wants people to be "educated away" from doing so

Jeremy Corbyn would decriminalise cannabis for medicinal purposes, but would not support legalising recreational drugs.
He said the huge consumption of drugs in Europe and America has fuelled a "deeply nasty" narcotics trade elsewhere in the world.
Speaking at a Labour leadership debate in Glasgow, he said: "I would decriminalise medicinal uses of cannabis.
"I would also want to look at supporting people who want to get out of the drugs trade in other parts of the world because there is the horrors of the drugs war that's going on in Central America, and very large numbers of people who have died as a result of it."
He said there "has to be an intelligent approach to this."

GUESTS

NEELA BANERJEE
Washington-based reporter for the Pulitzer Prize-winning InsideClimate News. Her latest exposé is titled "Exxon’s Oil Industry Peers Knew About Climate Dangers in the 1970s, Too."
2015, the hottest on record, was also the year ExxonMobil was caught in a more than three-decade lie. Internal documents revealed Exxon knew that fossil fuels cause global warming in the 1970s, but hid that information from the public. Now it turns out that Exxon isn’t alone. A new exposé from InsideClimate News reveals nearly every major U.S. and multinational oil and gas company was likely aware of the impact of fossil fuels on climate change at the same time as Exxon. We are joined by Neela Banerjee, the InsideClimate News reporter who broke this story.
